Asus smartphones are rarely seen in the wild. Both the Zenfone series and the ROG Phone gaming phones are among the most powerful smartphones in their segment. In addition, Asus offers long software support and was one of the first brands to roll out Android 13 for their 2022 flagships. Now the update is reaching the 2021 smartphones. As of now, the Asus Zenfone 8 and the Zenfone 8 Flip get the latest Android version from Google. The current security patch from January 2023 is also on board.


Asus Zenfone 8 / Zenfone 8 Flip
The Asus Zenfone 8 and 8 Flip were released in 2021. The Zenfone 8 was one of the few compact flagships with the fastest processor technology at the time. The ZenFone 8 Flip was similarly equipped, but also featured Asus’ unique flip camera for high-quality selfies. The devices are running a near-stock version of Android and are now getting another major update.
Asus Zenfone 8: Android 13 update comes in stages
The update comes with the build number 33.0210.0210 and will be rolled out gradually at the start. If no critical errors occur in this first phase, the new Android 13 firmware will be widely rolled out. There are first reports of success from Europe, Russia, India and Taiwan. The new software comes as an OTA update, but you can also go to the Asus website and update your phone manually.
The ASUS ZenFone 8 has a 5.9-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a punch hole and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It is powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset. There’s a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, as well as a 12-megapixel ultra-wide. The 4,000 mAh battery charges with 30 watts. The Flip has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and 90 Hz. The 64-megapixel main camera can be rotated to the front for selfies. There’s also an 8-megapixel telephoto camera and a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor. The Snapdragon 888 draws power from a 5,000 mAh battery.
Both Asus smartphones started with Android 11 and later received Android 12. Now they are getting their next big Android update.
