A Zenfone 9 user recently contacted the Taiwanese manufacturer’s technical support regarding how to unlock the bootloader on their Asus smartphone. In response, Asus said that unlocking the bootloader on the Zenfone 9 and Zenfone 10 is currently not possible. The tool for unlocking the bootloader is also currently not available. This indicated that Asus no longer allows unlocking the bootloader on its smartphones.
A reply from the Taiwanese brand’s spokesman to the former editor-in-chief of XDA-Developers, Mishaal Rahman, has calmed things down for the time being. Rahman’s PR contact at Asus said the company’s customer support misunderstood the situation.
“The service team reply misunderstood the situation. Unlock tool is unavailable at this moment but we are allowing the possibility to unlock, please stay tuned.”
Asus press department
On the one hand, this is good news. On the other hand, Asus has not yet announced the reason for the unavailability of the bootloader unlocking tool, nor a time frame when it will be available again. And that applies to both the Asus Zenfone 10 and the Zenfone 9. All you can do as a user of one of these Asus smartphones at the moment is wait. Sooner or later the bootloader unlock tool should be available again.
