Apple only recently activated its Emergency SOS feature via satellite. So far, the feature is only available on the iPhone 14 series and only in the US and Canada. And yet there are already the first success stories: The new feature has helped to save a stranded man in Nimiuk Point, Alaska. The Alaska Department of Public Safety issued a report that a snowmobiler stranded in the area. At 2 a.m. local time on December 1, Alaska State Troopers rescued the driver after he activating the Emergency SOS feature on his iPhone.

According to the report, the Apple Emergency Response Center has provided the Northwest Arctic Borough’s search and rescue department with the man’s exact GPS coordinates. A team of four volunteers then started a rescue mission and tracked down the stranded man.
