With a 49 mm case, the Apple Watch Ultra is the largest and, at 61.3 grams, the heaviest Apple smartwatch to date. The thickness is 14.4 mm, which means that the Ultra also outshines the competition in-house, but also most of the competing models from Samsung, Garmin, Amazfit or Fitbit. According to a new tip from China, things could change with the next generation.

Accordingly, the weight of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 should drop significantly compared to its predecessor. Unfortunately, the tipster Setsuna Digital, which is quite well-known in China, does not give any concrete figures. However, he anticipates that the lighter case will be a key feature of Apple’s upcoming top-of-the-line smartwatch.
A recent report from last week already suggested that Apple will use 3D printed parts for its upcoming Watch Ultra 2. The weight could also benefit from this, since 3D printing uses different materials and manufacturing processes. The rugged smartwatch is expected to launch in the second half of the year alongside the Watch Series 9 and iPhone 15. Rumor has it that Apple will upgrade the Watch Ultra 3 to a 2.1-inch micro-LED display in 2024. This would increase the maximum brightness again compared to the current Watch Ultra and its OLED display.
