Apple iPhone 16 Pro / Pro Max: 48 MP ultrawide and Wi-Fi 7

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 15 series at a major live event at its California headquarters next month. However, the Apple iPhone 16 series for 2024 is already a hot topic in the rumor mill. The latest rumor once again concerns the camera setup. Accordingly, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max get an upgrade for the ultrawide camera.

The information comes from Jeff Pu, a technology analyst at Hong Kong investment firm Haitong International Securities. In a research note, Pu claims that the Apple iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature 48-megapixel sensors for the ultrawide cameras. The main cameras of last year’s Apple iPhone 14 Pro und iPhone 14 Pro Max already use 48-megapixel sensors. And it seems the same upgrade could await next year’s ultra-wide cameras.

In addition, Pu assumes that the Apple iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will also support Wi-Fi 7. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, on the other hand, should only launch with Wi-Fi 6E support. However, since there is not even a larger selection of suitable routers on the market, this step is hardly a dealbreaker from our point of view.

With the launch of the Apple iPhone 16 series still over a year away, these rumors should be taken with a pinch of salt for now. Plans are still subject to change, as is availability of individual components of upcoming iPhones.
