The Apple iPhone 15 series will only be on the market in about 9 months, but the rumor mill is already steaming out of all pots. Some industry analysts have already suggested that the next-gen iPhone 15 Pro models will get a major upgrade compared to the iPhone 14 Pro series. A new report is now a little more specific. Accordingly, the next Apple phones will have titanium frames and solid-state volume and power buttons with tactile feedback.

Titanium frame and solid state keys

The iPhone 14 series presented by Apple last year, on the other hand, uses different frame materials. The regular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have an aircraft-grade aluminum frame. The Pro models including the iPhone 14 Pro Max are clad in elegant surgical-grade stainless steel.

Also, the storage of the Apple iPhone 15 Pro series is upgraded to 8GB for the first time. In addition, there is the new A17 Bionic chipset, which is very likely to push Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor back from the throne of the most powerful mobile CPUs. The three Apple chip generations from A14 to A16 have not received a new microkernel and still use the same 5 Nm manufacturing process. This allowed the advanced Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in 4 Nm to overtake in terms of performance.

Currently, the entire iPhone 14 series has 6GB of RAM, while the previous iPhone 13 generation has 4GB of RAM. However, the iPhone 13 Pro series has already been upgraded to 6GB of RAM. Also, due to the new EU laws, all new Apple devices will switch from Lightning connector to USB-C.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra

According to technology analyst Jeff Pu, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have several new features. These include titanium frames, solid-state buttons with tactile feedback, and increased storage capacity. In a research note for Hong Kong investment firm Haitong International Securities, he outlined his expectations for the new models. According to them, there will be a 6.1-inch and a 6.7-inch model, respectively as a base version and as a Plus / Pro Max. However, according to some reports, Apple could drop the Pro Max name in favor of an iPhone 15 Ultra, just like with the Apple Watch Ultra

The analyst also assumes 8GB of RAM and the new A17 Bionic for the chipset. The latter is manufactured at TSMC in a 3 Nm process. He also expects that the Apple iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will get the A16 Bionic chip and 6GB RAM. All four models will feature a USB-C port and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X70 modem for 5G and LTE.

Jeff Pu also expects the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max / Ultra’s telephoto lens to switch to periscope technology, which would mean significantly better optical zoom quality. As for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, he expects a 48-megapixel main camera like the iPhone 14 Pro models.
