The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max went through DxOMark’s camera test and received a lot of praise. Overall, the new top model came in second place, a full eight places ahead of its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The test evaluates performance in terms of photo, video and zoom quality.

The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max showed excellent exposure and delivered remarkable image and video results in a wide range of shooting conditions. Portrait photos and videos that showed complex details and beautiful skin tones were particularly positive in the camera test. DxOMark was also impressed by the brightness and contrast of the photos, as well as the precise exposure even in night shots.

In terms of exposure, color and texture as well as bokeh, the iPhone even archieved first place. According to DxOMark, it is also the best smartphone for recording videos. In the overall result, it only had to give way to the Huawei P60 Pro. The few criticisms concern low-light performance, where the iPhone showed more noise than some of its competitors. The second negative point is the slightly limited dynamic range in demanding outdoor scenes.

The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max camera specs may not be up to par on paper compared to some competitors. But Apples engineers have managed to make improvements where it counts. As with last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, the Quad Bayer image sensor improves image quality and enables seamless zooming up to a factor of 2. The new 5x telephoto lens also delivers better image quality with a larger zoom.
