Rumors about Apple’s possible move to solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro series have been circulating for a few months. The most recent claim that the Californians will suspend the project for at least another year. However, a new, deeper look into the source code of the iOS 17 beta 4 now revealed some interesting new details.

In the two Apple iPhone 15 Pro renders above you can see the design of the new action button. It is designed as a solid-state button and is located on the right above the volume buttons. Based on previous reports, Apple plans to replace all physical buttons on its iPhones with solid-state buttons. The legendary mute switch is said to be replaced by the new “Action Button” like the Apple Watch Ultra.
MacRumors has now discovered a total of nine Action button-related features in the latest iOS 17 beta. This includes the obvious silent mode, which turns off all sounds with a tap. The new button also provides quick access to Accessibility, Shortcuts, Camera, Flashlight, Magnifier, Translate, and Voice Notes.
The report does not describe in detail how to precisely control the above features using this action button. It also remains to be seen whether Apple will already bring the action button with the iPhone 15 Pro series. Apart from that, the OLED displays and the availability of the new Apple iPhones are currently hot topics in the rumor mill.
