Apple iPhone 15 and 15 Plus with USB-C and 48 MP camera unveiled

Apple today introduced the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Watch Series 9 and the Watch Ultra 2. The new entry-level models Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus also came onto the stage. They feature the Dynamic Island already known from the iPhone 14 Pro, a range of new colors and the new USB-C port, which replaces the Lightning port.

Like last year, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. However, the maximum brightness has increased to up to 2,000 nits. Apple also updated the camera system. The main camera now has a 48 megapixel sensor like the iPhone 14 Pro series. This makes double lossless digital zoom possible. A 0.5x ultra-wide lens is also installed.

The iPhone 15’s portrait mode has also been updated. Apple says its synthetic bokeh portrait shots offer better low-light performance than ever before. Portrait mode now also starts automatically when the main camera detects a corresponding subject. Additionally, you can change the focus even after the photo has been taken, as Apple retains the depth data along with the image data.

Apple A16 Bionic chipset

The Apple iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are powered by the A16 Bionic chip, previously found in the iPhone 14 Pro models. In addition to six CPU cores, the chipset also has a five-core GPU. The battery life of the base model hasn’t changed, but the Plus now lasts a little longer thanks to a larger battery. The new USB-C port takes over the charging.

The iPhone 15 also features a second-generation ultra-wideband chip to improve tracking range. With Precision Finding you can now navigate directly to a person, not just to AirTags.

Apple is also expanding iPhones’ Emergency SOS feature via satellite to provide roadside assistance. In the US, this is offered to AAA members. The entire Emergency SOS feature is free for two years with the purchase of an iPhone 15. Apple has not yet revealed how much the service will cost afterwards.

Apple iPhone 15 and 15 Plus prices

The Apple iPhone 15 is available in pink, yellow-green, blue and black. Prices start at $799 for the basic model and $899 for the Plus. Pre-orders start on September 15th, 2023, sales start on September 22nd, 2023.
