Amazon Fire HD 10 (2023)

The new Amazon Fire HD 10 (2023) was originally introduced back in September 2023 along with a number of other Amazon devices. Now the tablet is finally available at a price of $140/€165. The tablet is now in its 13th generation and features a 10.1-inch 1,200 x 1,920 pixel LCD display that is compatible with Amazon’s stylus pen and has on-device handwriting recognition.

The separately available MFA pen offers over 4,000 levels of pressure sensitivity and promises a “pen on paper” feel. This feature effectively brings the Amazon Fire HD 10 closer to the more expensive Fire Max 11, which also supports pen input and is priced at €270 / $230. There is also an optional Bluetooth keyboard case.

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is powered by a MediaTek MT8186A chipset with two 2.05 GHz Cortex-A76 cores and six 2 GHz Cortex-A55. The Mali GPU runs at 1 GHz and there is also 3 GB of RAM on board. This makes the tablet 25% faster than the previous model from 2021. The hardware is far from any performance records and is not comparable to a modern iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab. The target group for Fire tablets is also more concerned about a reasonable price.

At least you get a microSD card slot for your money that takes cards with up to 1TB of storage. There’s also a stereo speaker setup, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Wi-Fi 5 (ac) support. Amazon doesn’t reveal the battery capacity, but a runtime of 13 hours should be possible on one charge. When the battery is finally dead, the Amazon Fire HD 10 fully charges its battery with up to 15 watts in around 3 hours.

The tablet measures 246 x 165 x 8.6 mm and weighs 434 grams. That’s slightly lighter than the previous 2021 model. The tablet also brings two cameras – one on the front and one on the back. Both have a 5 megapixel resolution. The operating system is Fire OS 8 based on Android, but there are no Google Play services on board.

The new Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet is also available in two children’s versions – the Fire HD 10 Kids and the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro. The main difference between them is the padded cover for tough use in children’s rooms. The kids version is also available with some Disney cases. There’s a 1-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ and a 2-year worry-free guarantee. That means Amazon will replace a broken tablet, no questions asked.
