Samsung Galaxy S27+ could be released without UWB

According to new entries from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Samsung Galaxy S27+ will lack a mobile technology that has been available since the Galaxy S21+: UWB.

The Galaxy S27 series is expected to consist of four models: Galaxy S27, S27+, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra. The MIIT listing confirms all four models, however, only the Pro and Ultra support UWB. The Plus model is unfortunately missing, which could indicate a strategic realignment by Samsung. The Pro might receive higher-end features, while the Plus remains in the lineup as a more affordable alternative to the Ultra with a larger display. The standard Galaxy S27 will also not support UWB, which is hardly surprising, as none of its predecessors offered this feature.
Samsung Galaxy S27+ as a cheaper model?
The whole thing is strongly reminiscent of Apple’s portfolio – a standard model, a Plus, a Pro, and a Pro Max. How well that worked is well known – the Plus was discontinued with the iPhone 16 Plus. Just like with Samsung’s new plan, it, along with the base iPhone, was among the more affordable models without “high-end features” like a telephoto camera or a ProMotion display.
Since the Samsung Galaxy S27+ isn’t expected to be released until early 2027, there’s still a possibility that an error crept into the product description, and we hope that’s the case, as Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology is now an essential component of modern flagship smartphones. The absence of UWB means that the Galaxy smartphone won’t support precise location tracking with Samsung’s SmartTag 3 and similar accessories. It will rely solely on Bluetooth 6.0, which is significantly less accurate.
