Samsung Exynos 2700 production has started; use in Galaxy S27 Ultra still undecided

Because of the new Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro, Samsung will produce more Exynos 2700 chips. But what about the Galaxy S27 Ultra?

According to the Korean website The Elec, Samsung has begun mass production of the Exynos 2700 chipset. The company is said to have set the production target “more than 10% higher” than that for the Exynos 2600, as the chip is also intended to power the latest member of the S series – the Galaxy S27 Pro.

The Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro – along with the standard and Plus models – will be equipped with the Exynos 2700 in Korea and Europe. In the US and China, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will be used instead.

The future of the Galaxy S27 Ultra remains uncertain. Samsung Systems LSI, which develops the Exynos chips, is convinced of the 2700’s potential and is pushing to use it in the top-of-the-line S-series model. This would naturally boost profits for the division, but would also signal that the chip is suitable for a flagship Ultra-class device.

The final decision, however, rests with Samsung MX, the division that manufactures the smartphones. Currently, various factors are being considered – benchmark and thermal performance, as well as the price of the Qualcomm chips and the production capacity for Exynos 2700 chips.

Some time ago, it was revealed that internal tests showed the Exynos 2700 beat the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 by 9.5% in the Geekbench multi-core test. However, the Snapdragon still has the edge in the single-core test.

The Exynos 2700 is manufactured using Samsung’s SF2P technology, a second-generation 2nm Gate All-Around (GAA) process. Compared to the first generation (SF2) used in the Exynos 2600, SF2P offers 12% higher performance, 25% lower power consumption, and an 8% smaller die size. There will also be architectural improvements: The Exynos 2700 is expected to use Arm C2 CPU cores (the 2600 used C1 cores).

Apparently, it takes three to four months from mass production of a chipset to the completion of the final product. This timing is therefore perfect for a market launch of the Galaxy S smartphones in February or March.
