Bose today unveiled the new Sport Open Earbuds and the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen). According to the manufacturer, both models are designed to “provide a more immersive listening experience during sports activities and everyday life.” The second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds represent Bose’s new flagship open-ear headphones, while the new Sport Open Earbuds offer a more affordable (but still not inexpensive) alternative.

Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen)

The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) feature a newly developed driver that delivers deeper bass and higher volume compared to the previous Ultra Open Earbuds. Thanks to Snapdragon Sound and aptX Adaptive, you’ll also enjoy premium audio quality. SpeechClarity technology ensures clear and natural calls, while automatic volume control takes ambient noise into account.

The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) also feature Cinema mode, which is based on Bose TrueSpatial technology and “creates a wider, more immersive soundstage while keeping dialogue sharp, clear and precisely centered” – for a “cinema-like experience that works with any content source”.

The new Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) feature a sleek metal cap with a beveled surface and a redesigned charging case that can stand upright and supports wireless charging. The earbuds offer up to 9 hours of battery life, with the case providing an additional 19.5 hours.

Bose Sport Open Earbuds

The new Bose Sport Open Earbuds are specifically designed for running, fitness, and various outdoor activities, and are characterized by stability, comfort, and durability. They feature tactile buttons and dynamic drivers that deliver a full, balanced sound. Automatic volume control is also integrated.

Thanks to their design, the Bose headphones stay firmly in place even during head shaking, somersaults, and other activities that test their secure fit, according to Bose. They are IP54-rated for dust, sweat, and splash resistance, and the silicone material is designed to withstand the rigors of active pursuits while also making it easy to clean away dirt and dust. The charging case stands upright and supports wireless charging.

The Bose Sport Open Earbuds offer up to 7 hours of battery life, which can be extended by up to 22 hours with the charging case. Both the Ultra Open Earbuds and the Sport Open Earbuds use Bluetooth 5.4 and support multipoint connections with two devices as well as Google Fast Pair. Both models also offer customizable shortcuts for Spotify Tap and quick access to your smartphone’s voice assistant.

The Bose Sport Open Earbuds cost $199, and the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) cost $299. Both will be available starting October 1st, with pre-orders beginning September 19th. Following the launch, Bose promises a firmware update with support for Google Find Hub, Alexa+, and Apple Music Shortcuts. The Bose app offers a customizable 3-band equalizer and automatic volume control settings.
