Apple has released macOS Golden Gate 27, the latest version of the macOS operating system for Mac. macOS Golden Gate is a free app that can be downloaded to all compatible Macs and MacBooks. The update requires a Mac with an Apple chipset and is not available for Intel Macs.

Mac users can download the macOS Golden Gate update via Software Update in System Preferences. The update introduces Siri AI, a smarter chatbot version of Siri with its own Siri app. It brings visual intelligence to the Mac for the first time and refines the design of the Liquid Glass update that Apple unveiled last year.

Experience the new Siri AI: Siri AI is an all-new version of Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence, that’s more personal, powerful, and conversational. It’s integrated with Spotlight, so you can find answers to almost any topic right from where you already search system-wide. Siri uses your personal context to find content in your Messages, emails, photos, and more. And it can perform actions in your apps—simply by giving you a voice command. You can continue previous conversations in the new, separate Siri app, which syncs with iCloud across all your Apple devices. Siri AI is rolling out to all users now. Turn it on in Settings to get started.
Respond directly to screen content: With the visual intelligence in macOS Golden Gate, you can select a portion of the screen, and Siri can answer questions or perform actions directly on the screen, such as adding appointments to your calendar. Visual intelligence is accessible via the keyboard shortcut Command-Shift-Space.
Powerful new photo editing capabilities: Use intelligent photo editing tools to reframe a photo after it’s been taken with spatial reframing or to enlarge your image area with the expansion tool. Improvements to the Clean Up function allow you to remove distracting elements with higher quality and more realistic fill, even in complex scenes.
New tools for browsing in Safari: Your tabs are automatically grouped by topic in macOS Golden Gate, making it easier to find related pages. With “Notify,” Safari monitors pages for changes such as price drops or back-in-stock items and notifies you when action is needed. “Describe Extension” lets you create custom extensions in natural language, such as adding a button to save your favorite recipes.
Easily create shortcuts using natural language. With “Describe Shortcut,” you can automate everyday tasks with a brief description. All the necessary steps will then be automatically compiled for you. For example, you can create a shortcut that automatically sends your partner a text message when you’re on your way home from work, including your estimated time of arrival based on traffic conditions.
Even more refined design: Updates to Liquid Glass improve readability, and a new slider allows for individual customization of the display – from crystal clear to fully tinted. Unified toolbars, borderless sidebars, and more detailed app icons further enhance the design.
New parental controls: Powerful new macOS Golden Gate parental controls help parents more easily control what content their children see, who they can communicate with, and when they can access apps. With “Ask Before Browsing,” children must request permission before visiting a new website in Safari. Communication safety enhances protection and helps foster safe conversations. Time limits give parents more flexibility in managing app usage in different categories and offer age-appropriate, expert-researched recommendations. Schedules allow parents to set which apps children can access at different times of day and week.
A more responsive and enjoyable experience: Numerous improvements make your Mac even faster, more reliable, and more user-friendly. Optimized search in Spotlight and Mail helps you find what you’re looking for quickly and easily. AirDrop transfers and browsing network files are now faster. And many more improvements make everyday use more enjoyable.
