Apple iPhone Duo has a hidden display setting for case compatibility

The Apple iPhone Duo features a special option in the display settings that adds a narrow black border to the left side of the front screen. Blogger Nicolas Lellouche discovered the setting in the “Display & Brightness” menu during his initial testing of the device shortly after Apple’s iPhone event livestream last week.

The idea behind the “Shift Left Edge” setting – which roughly doubles the width of the black border – is to accommodate cases that slightly obscure this edge of the iPhone Duo display, while still allowing the swipe gesture to return to the previous screen to function as expected in iOS.
Apple iPhone Duo with two official cases
Apple offers two official cases for its new foldable smartphone: an iPhone Duo case and a Folio case with a stand.
It’s unclear whether any of these cases cover the left edge of the display, but it seems unlikely that Apple would have designed them that way. It’s more likely that Apple is trying to ensure compatibility with bulky third-party cases, which typically do cover the left edge.
We’ll know for sure as soon as the first reviews of the Apple iPhone Duo appear online. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo are available from October 16th, with delivery starting on October 23rd. However, our iPhone price comparison already lists various prices.
