Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra: New rumors about the camera setup

The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra apparently won't be getting a new telephoto camera after all. However, the new design seems to be a done deal.

Earlier this month, we heard rumors that Samsung would be replacing the telephoto camera on the Galaxy S27 Ultra. However, according to a new report from well-known tipster Ice Universe, this won’t be happening. The S27 Ultra will retain the 5x telephoto lens module (1/2.52 inch) from the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Rumors suggested Samsung would replace it with a new module featuring a shorter lens (4x) and a larger sensor (1/1.9 inch). “That’s absolutely false,” says Ice.

The leaker didn’t address another rumor, namely that Samsung will remove the second telephoto camera from the S26 Ultra (the 3x 10MP telephoto module). Therefore, it’s likely that it will be omitted. Its absence will hardly be noticeable, as the 200MP main camera already delivers excellent results at lower zoom levels using in-sensor zoom.

Samsung will rearrange the camera positions, as seen in the CAD renderings above. This serves two purposes: firstly, to visually refresh the smartphone, and secondly, to create more space for magnetic accessories. The current Magnet Wireless Battery Pack has an inconvenient cutout to bypass the camera position of the S26 Ultra.

The smaller Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro, on the other hand, will likely only feature a 12 MP 3x telephoto camera. Like the Ultra, it will also have a 200 MP main camera and a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra will therefore continue to deliver the best image quality of all Samsung phones when zooming. However, this may not be achieved through a new telephoto lens. Instead, the Pro is expected to inherit the Ultra’s Privacy Display.
