Apple iPhone Duo Max with larger display, Duo 3 with Face ID and telephoto camera

Apple could not only be working on an iPhone Duo Max with larger displays, but also bringing Face ID and a telephoto camera to the Duo 3.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggested in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple will release an “iPhone Duo Max” in the coming years. He also explained why Apple chose the name “Duo” and not other names.

In the months leading up to Apple’s unveiling of the iPhone Duo, Gurman reported that employees within Apple had begun to refer to the device as the “iPhone Ultra,” possibly influenced by media coverage of the device and speculation from leakers.

Ultimately, however, Apple opted for the three-letter suffix “Duo,” which, according to Gurman, fits with Air and Pro and leaves room for further additions that wouldn’t have been compatible with “Ultra.” Furthermore, Gurman believes that Apple’s first foldable will sooner or later be followed by an “iPhone Duo Max” with a larger display, just like the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Finally, even a “Duo SE” or “Duo Mini” with reduced specifications or a foldable design would be conceivable.

Gurman is convinced that the foldable iPhone, thanks to its software optimizations, high-quality hardware, and greater robustness compared to other foldable smartphones, will become the leading foldable device on the market. He even argued that the device is so impressive that it will make foldable smartphones the new standard.

Apple iPhone Duo 3 to get Face ID and a telephoto camera

Furthermore, Gurman has already ventured a look into the future, specifically at the iPhone Duo 3, which he believes will have two main development focuses: the integration of Face ID and a telephoto camera. The Apple phone was initially presented last week only with Touch ID and a dual rear camera, presumably for design reasons.

Apple will use a combination of component miniaturization and advances in artificial intelligence to eventually integrate them into the third-generation iPhone Duo. “This will allow Apple to use smaller, less complex hardware for depth sensors and cameras, and partially compensate for the differences with processing power,” he wrote.
