Apple’s latest AirPods are here. The Apple AirPods 5 promise better sound, more powerful noise cancellation, and a lower price with the same features. They are available in two versions: one with the traditional USB-C charging case and one with a wireless charging case and touch controls on the stem. Both models now feature ANC (active noise cancellation), which Apple claims is the best active noise cancellation for an open-back design on the market.

Furthermore, the active noise cancellation (ANC) of the Apple AirPods 5 is said to reduce up to 50% more ambient noise than the AirPods 4 ANC. The transparency mode has also been improved and is designed to reproduce voices and ambient sounds more naturally.

The earbuds feature a new multi-channel acoustic architecture and a next-generation adaptive equalizer for richer, more detailed sound. According to Apple, the new design adapts better to different ear shapes. The optimization also improves the personalized spatial sound experience.

Apple AirPods 5 with hands-free Siri AI control

The new AirPods offer hands-free Siri AI control when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. You can ask Siri for personal content in messages, emails, and photos, and then use it in supported apps.

Let’s talk about gestures: You can nod your head to say “yes” and shake your head to signal “no” to Siri. The model that costs 20 euros more and comes with a wireless charging cable features swipe gestures on the stem for volume control – a first for the non-Pro AirPods, by the way.

The Apple AirPods 5 offer up to 5 hours of listening time with active noise cancellation (ANC) enabled – one hour more than the previous generation. The model with wireless charging cable allows for a total battery life of up to 22 hours. Furthermore, the new AirPods meet the IP57 standard for water resistance, meaning they are not only splash-proof but can also be briefly submerged.

The Apple headphones cost €149/$129 or €169/$149 with a wireless charging case and touch controls. Pre-orders are already open, and general sales begin on September 18.
