Apple iPhone Duo with foldable 7.6-inch display and iOS 27 is here

Apple has finally unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the Apple iPhone Duo. It features a wide main display with an under-display selfie camera and a titanium hinge with an integrated magnet for a secure snap-in mechanism. As is typical for foldable smartphones, Touch ID is integrated into the side button. Alternatively, the iPhone Duo can also be unlocked with the Apple Watch.

The main display is accompanied by a 5.4-inch cover display. Both support ProMotion and offer a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The back is protected with Ceramic Shield, and the front display with Ceramic Shield 2. The device is IP68 dustproof and waterproof, and a special nanotexture ensures an optically smooth, matte surface that minimizes creasing. The foldable display, mounted on a titanium plate, also has a scratch-resistant coating.

The smartphone is powered by the A20 Pro chipset, just like the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which were also unveiled today. The chipset is manufactured using a 2nm process and features a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU, and a dual 16-core NPU. Compared to the A19 Pro, the A20 Pro offers a 20% faster CPU and up to 40% faster GPU, as well as double the Neural Engine’s processing power and 50% more shared memory bandwidth.
Apple iPhone Duo with eSIM only
The Apple iPhone Duo features Apple’s C2 modem, which supports mmWave 5G in the US. The Apple N1 chip also brings Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 7 on board. The smartphone is available worldwide exclusively with eSIM.

Apple promises up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display and 44 hours using the outer display. With even use of both screens, battery life is up to 24 hours. Wired charging reaches 50% battery capacity in 20 minutes, while wireless charging with a MagSafe or Qi2 charger takes 30 minutes.

The Apple iPhone Duo features a 48MP Fusion main camera with an integrated 2x optical telephoto lens, a 48MP ultrawide camera with macro capability, and a 12MP front-facing camera in the outer display, which apparently uses the same sensor as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The inner foldable display houses a selfie camera, the hardware specifications of which have not yet been revealed.

iOS 27 was specifically optimized for the Apple iPhone Duo and its displays, offering an adaptive user interface that adjusts when the phone is folded, rotated, or unfolded. The lock screen controls, the home screen dock, app navigation, and other controls have been moved to the edges to create more space for content. When unfolded, the home screen displays two pages simultaneously.

The status bar has also been redesigned and now appears as a flexible, circular interface in one corner, displaying Wi-Fi, mobile network, and battery status. The dynamic island has been redesigned for the sides of both screens and expands to show notifications and live activity. Naturally, you can use two apps in split-screen mode on the inner display and save frequently used app pairs with a single tap.
