There have been rumors several times that Samsung would remove a camera from its upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, so that the phone would then only have three rear cameras instead of four like its predecessor.

A new rumor from an insider on X claims to give us a first look at the telephoto camera of the S27 Ultra. If this proves true, Samsung will replace the two telephoto lenses of the Galaxy S26 Ultra with a new camera featuring a 1/1.9-inch sensor.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra vs Galaxy S26 Ultra

This camera is rumored to have a 4x optical zoom, which falls exactly between the two telephoto lenses of the S26 Ultra (3x and 5x zoom). The S26 Ultra’s 5x camera uses a 1/2.52-inch sensor, while the 3x camera uses a 1/3.94-inch sensor.

The new sensor in the Galaxy phone thus represents a significant improvement in terms of size, and it is precisely this size that determines the light sensitivity and therefore the telephoto camera’s ability to deliver sharp photos with little image noise even in low light.

As the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s launch date approaches, we’ll undoubtedly learn more about Samsung’s changes to the device. The new design has already been leaked and can be seen above, along with battery and chipset details.
