Poco F9 Pro and F9 Ultra chipsets officially confirmed
We’ve already seen the Poco F9 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset in a Geekbench 7 test – last year’s flagship chipset, which was also used in the F8 Ultra. But we no longer have to rely on leaks: Poco has officially confirmed that the new Ultra will use the same processor.
Xiaomi has little choice here – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is still the fastest chipset on the market. Its successor is already in the starting blocks, but it hasn’t been released yet.
Poco F9 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V
The Poco F9 Pro, on the other hand, will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 from the V series. The V-series chip has the same CPU as the regular Elite Gen 5. The difference lies in the GPU, which is 33% smaller – it only has 8 instead of the usual 12 processing units. The on-chip memory for the GPU is also smaller, at 12 MB instead of 18 MB.
The Poco F8 Pro used the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the flagship chip of 2024 (which, if Qualcomm had counted correctly, would have been called “Gen 4”). Therefore, there was a possibility that the new Pro model would receive the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, the non-Elite version. But this solution is better.
The V-chip has a faster CPU than the non-Elite chip (same number of cores, higher clock speeds), while the GPUs should be roughly equivalent. Therefore, the Poco F9 Pro receives a better upgrade than expected, while the Poco F9 Ultra offers no upgrade compared to its predecessor.
The Redmi K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max, available exclusively in China, serve as models, and their global versions will be the Poco F9 Pro and F9 Ultra. The Poco F9 series will be unveiled on September 1st (next Tuesday). Its main colors are Aurora Green for the Pro and Dark Cherry for the Ultra, as can be seen in the pictures.
