Sony Xperia 10 VIII with microSD slot and Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip is here
Sony has just unveiled its latest mid-range smartphone: the Sony Xperia 10 VIII (Mark 8). Unfortunately, it can hardly be called an upgrade, as very little has changed compared to its predecessor, the Xperia 10 VII. Nevertheless, Sony is asking €599 / £549 for what is essentially just a redesigned version of last year’s model.
The Sony Xperia 10 VIII features the same 6.1-inch LTPS OLED display as its predecessor. It offers FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Sony claims a 50% increase in brightness but doesn’t provide specific figures for the maximum brightness.
The familiar stereo speakers on the top and bottom face forward and, according to the manufacturer, are 30% louder.
Sony continues to use the older Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip, again paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Thankfully, the SIM card slot can still be expanded with microSD cards, making the Xperia 10 VIII one of the few smartphones with expandable storage. And the 3.5 mm headphone jack is still present, which is a rare sight these days.

On the back is the same dual camera as last year: a 50 MP main camera (1/1.56 inch) and a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The battery hasn’t been updated either, still offering a capacity of 5,000 mAh and support for 30-watt charging. Software-wise, the Xperia 10 VIII runs Android 16 with Sony’s virtually unchanged user interface. Sony does, however, provide up to four major operating system updates.
The Sony Xperia 10 VIII will be available in Frozen White, Frosted Grey, and Misty Lilac. As is typical for Sony, the smartphone will not be available immediately but is expected to launch in mid- to late September.
