Towards the end of yesterday’s Robot Phone keynote, Honor offered a first glimpse of the upcoming Magic9 series. The company confirmed that the Honor Magic9 series is slated for release in September – a month earlier than last year’s Magic8 series.

The teaser offers a first look at the camera module of the Magic9 and Magic9 Pro, which appears to be slightly off-center in the corner. Several other details are also noticeable. The ring around the sensors features a knurled pattern similar to that of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition. It remains to be seen whether the Magic9 series’ module can be rotated and offers additional controls.

As you can see, one of the cameras will feature a 200-megapixel resolution, a 1/1.4-inch sensor, and optical image stabilization (OIS). Last year’s Magic8 Pro had a similarly sized 200-megapixel periscope module with 3.7x optical zoom. So we’ll have to wait and see if it will also be used in the Magic9 series.

Furthermore, the Arri logo is hard to miss on the teaser, which is not surprising given that the two companies announced a strategic partnership earlier this summer.

Honor confirmed that the Magic9 series will offer the same video features as the Robot Phone. These include native Log-C3 video encoding, LUT color correction, and a special cinema mode that replicates the look and feel of Arri cinema cameras.

Honor Magic9 Pro to have two 200MP cameras

The main camera is rumored to use a 1/1.28″ sensor with an f/1.57 aperture. It is also expected to feature optical image stabilization with a compensation angle of up to 3 degrees. The Honor Magic9 Pro will also be among the first devices to use the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, though it remains unclear whether this will be the standard or the Pro version.

The well-known tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo has now provided further details. According to him, the Honor Magic9 Pro will feature two 200-megapixel cameras – the periscope telephoto camera with an aperture of f/2.6 and the main camera.

For comparison, the Magic8 Pro has a 50-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and an f/1.6 aperture. The new camera therefore offers more pixels, but a very similar size and aperture. The Magic9 series is rumored to be unveiled on September 28th.
