According to Jeff Pu, an investment analyst who follows Apple, Apple plans to release a second-generation iPhone Air in the first quarter of 2027. In a new analysis published with GF Securities, Pu stated that the Apple iPhone Air 2 will have the following five new features compared to the current model.

Apple iPhone Air 2 Features

  • The Apple iPhone Air 2 gets a second 48-megapixel rear camera – an ultra-wide-angle lens to complement the existing Fusion lens.
  • A slightly smaller Dynamic Island.
  • The faster and more energy-efficient A20 Pro chip is manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process. The current iPhone Air is equipped with a 3nm A19 Pro chip.
  • Apple’s new second-generation N2 chip enables wireless networking. The current iPhone Air uses the N1 chip, an Apple-designed wireless networking chip that supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. The new chip also improves the overall performance and reliability of features like AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.
  • Apple’s second-generation C2 chip for 5G. Apple states that the current C1X chip is already the most energy-efficient modem ever used in an iPhone.

He assumes that the Apple iPhone Air 2 will continue to feature a 6.5-inch display, 12 GB of RAM, and an 18-megapixel front camera with Center-Stage technology.

Reports indicate that Apple plans to launch the iPhone Air 2 alongside the regular iPhone 18 and a more affordable iPhone 18e around March 2027. The higher-end iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and foldable iPhone Ultra are expected to be released in September of this year, with the devices in the lineup launching at staggered times as part of a new strategy.
