MediaTek is expected to launch its next flagship chipset, the MediaTek Dimensity 9600, later this year. A new rumor from China suggests there will be three versions. The Dimensity 9600s is said to be essentially a Dimensity 9500+, a slightly improved version of last year’s Dimensity 9500. It will reportedly also be manufactured using a 3nm process.

The “real” MediaTek Dimensity 9600 will be offered in two variants, similar to what Qualcomm is rumored to be doing with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. In MediaTek’s case, there will reportedly be not just a standard chipset and a Pro variant, but a Pro and a Pro Max chip.

MediaTek Dimensity 9600 manufactured using a 2nm process

The MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro and Pro Max are both manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process. However, they are said to differ in their exact CPU configuration. Unsurprisingly, the source of this rumor claims that the Dimensity 9600 cannot compete with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.

This is obvious, since the standard version will be a 3nm chip, while the Qualcomm chip is manufactured using a 2nm process. The Dimensity 9600 Pro, on the other hand, is likely MediaTek’s answer to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the Dimensity 9600 Pro Max will compete against Qualcomm’s fastest processor – the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

The new Dimensity 9600 series is expected to debut in devices launching in September. These are likely to include the vivo X500 series and the Oppo Find X10 series.
