Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 will receive updates for five years
Yesterday, Samsung unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 at its major Unpacked event in London. Both models will receive five major operating system upgrades and five years of security updates, the company has now confirmed.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 will be released on August 7th with Wear OS 7 and Samsung’s own user interface, One UI 9 Watch. Older Samsung Galaxy Watches received four major operating system upgrades and four years of security updates – a promise that has not yet been kept. Therefore, anyone wanting maximum support for their Galaxy Watch should buy one of the latest models.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 features a 1.52-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 498 x 498 pixels, a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, and sapphire crystal. It is powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset and comes with 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The watch has a titanium case, is dustproof and water-resistant according to IP68 and IP69K standards, meets the military standard MIL-STD-810H, and is submersible to a depth of 40 meters. The 800 mAh battery supports 10W wireless charging.
Samsung Galaxy Watch9
The Samsung Galaxy Watch9 is available in two sizes: 40 mm and 44 mm. It is powered by the same chipset as the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and has the same RAM capacity, but offers 32 GB of storage.
The smaller Galaxy Watch features a 1.34-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 438 x 438 pixels and a 390 mAh battery, while the larger model has a 1.47-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels and a 445 mAh battery. Both displays reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, and both batteries support 10-watt wireless charging.
