Samsung Smart Glasses with AI features and Android XR unveiled
The existing Galaxy XR headset is excellent for gaming and professional applications, but not necessarily suitable for everyday use. Instead, the new Samsung Smart Glasses, which Samsung unveiled at its Galaxy Unpacked event, are a better option.

The digital side is a collaboration between Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm. The glasses run Android XR on a Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset. Unlike the XR2+ Gen 2 chip in the Galaxy XR, the AR1 chip was specifically designed for thin and light smart glasses.
The glasses are equipped with the Google Gemini AI assistant, specifically designed for wearables. Thanks to the integrated camera, it captures the surroundings and provides additional information. For example, it can take a photo of a whiteboard and organize the information in your notes app. The camera can also be used as a regular camera to record videos from a first-person perspective or to show your surroundings during video calls.

The Samsung Smart Glasses can summarize long messages and read aloud important information. They also offer a real-time translation function for travelers who don’t speak the local language. They can also help you find your way around the city by providing real-time navigation to a selected location and offering information about your surroundings when you’re sightseeing.
The glasses can be controlled in various ways. Firstly, via voice command, secondly, via the touch-sensitive areas on the temples. Additionally, control via connected devices is possible.
Anyone expecting a display on the Samsung Smart Glasses will be disappointed – they rely on audio feedback. According to Samsung’s press release, the glasses are designed to bring AI closer to people “as they move, work, communicate, and explore the world, without every interaction requiring a screen.” Android XR fully supports display-less designs. These glasses are referred to as “AI glasses,” but Samsung is also working on AR glasses with displays.
While the electronics were developed by technology companies, Samsung commissioned Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to design the Samsung Smart Glasses. Gentle Monster created a fashionable look with a slim black frame, straight top edge, and rounded bottom edges. Warby Parker, on the other hand, opted for a brown hue suitable for everyday wear.
