Microsoft quietly extends Windows 10 support by one year
Microsoft is determined to get everyone to use Windows 11, but apparently many people disagree and still prefer its predecessor. For this reason, the company introduced the “Extended Security Updates for Windows 10” program last year, which applies to everyone signed in to the older Windows version with a Microsoft account.
Originally planned to end on October 13, 2026, the date on which support was to be permanently discontinued, Microsoft has now quietly extended the Extended Security Updates program for Windows 10 by another year, until October 12, 2027.
So, if you can still do without Windows 11, you can continue using Windows 10 for another year without worrying about security updates. However, it seems unlikely that Microsoft will extend this period for a third year, at least for now.
