Apple iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e: 9 GB RAM and A20 chipset

The Apple iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to receive a modest update to 9 GB of RAM and the A20 chipset. Will that be enough for Siri AI?

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the more affordable Apple iPhone 18 models, expected to launch in spring 2027, will feature 9 GB of DRAM, up from the current 8 GB. Kuo states that the A20 chip Apple plans to use in these devices will have six 1.5 GB modules, resulting in a total of 9 GB of RAM, instead of the four 2 GB modules found in the current, less expensive iPhone 17 models.

By “cheaper iPhones,” Kuo is presumably referring to the Apple iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, both rumored to be released in March or April 2027. Apple plans to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone this fall. These devices are expected to feature 12 GB of RAM (8 x 1.5 GB), like the current iPhone 17 Pro models.

Apple iPhone 18 models: More RAM, more AI

Apple will add more RAM to the iPhone 18 models to ensure that the devices can perform well with AI workloads and support all of Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27.

Apple raised prices for its Mac and iPad models yesterday, but the iPhone 17 price remained unchanged. It’s likely Apple will raise prices again once the iPhone 18 Pro models are released. Since Apple has already increased prices for the base iPad and MacBook Neo, the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are also expected to see price hikes.
