Samsung starts Apple iPhone Ultra OLED display production
The first foldable Apple iPhone Ultra is expected to be unveiled in September. A report in April stated that Apple had selected Samsung Display as the exclusive supplier of the foldable OLED panels for the device.
According to a new report from the same source, Samsung Display has now received approval to begin production of OLED panels after achieving a production yield of over 80%.
Apple iPhone Ultra launches with 3 million units
The report adds that Samsung Display’s production facility in Vietnam has already begun operations. Apple is said to have asked the company to produce an initial batch of 3 million Apple iPhone Ultra OLED panels this year.
While an earlier report claimed that Apple would use Samsung Display’s M14 display stack for its first foldable iPhone, the latest report suggests that the company has instead opted for the newer luminescent M16 material.
The M16 stack is expected to offer higher brightness, improved color reproduction, better energy efficiency, and a longer lifespan. The OLED panels will also utilize Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology.
