Tecno Pova 8 with an 8,000 mAh battery and Alive Matrix Display is here
The new Tecno Pova 8 is an upgrade over the Pova 7 in some respects, but a downgrade in others. It features a larger 8,000 mAh battery (previously 6,000 mAh). TÜV SÜD tested the smartphone and found that it lasts for two days on a single charge. But that’s not all: The battery is designed for over 2,000 charge cycles and retains at least 80% of its original capacity, which corresponds to a usage time of up to six years.
The Tecno Pova 8’s battery supports 45-watt fast charging, charging from 1% to 50% in 35 minutes. Reverse charging at 10 watts is also possible. However, the 30-watt wireless charging support of the previous model has been removed.
With the Pova 7, Tecno took inspiration from Nothing’s Delta Light Interface, a triangular light strip with 104 LEDs. Now the company is going a step further with the Alive Matrix Display. This is a small dot-matrix display in the third “lens” of the camera unit (contrary to appearances, there is only a single camera there).
The Tecno Pova 8 comes with the Dimensity 7100 chipset. Although this chip was announced back in January and is therefore newer than the Dimensity 7300 of the previous model, it actually uses an older semiconductor process – TSMC’s 6 nm instead of 4 nm.
The chipset features a 15,000 mm² graphite heat sink. The Dimensity 7100 is paired with 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. According to Tecno, the smartphone has been optimized to deliver a smooth 90 fps in popular titles like Honor of Kings and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
Tecno Pova 8 only has one main camera
The triangular camera module on the back appears to house three lenses. However, only one of them is actually a camera – a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 600 sensor (1/1.95 inch) with 2x in-sensor zoom and autofocus. The camera to its right is merely an auxiliary sensor, and the “lens” below it is the Alive Matrix Display. The second true camera is the 13-megapixel selfie camera on the front.
The 6.76-inch IPS LCD display offers a 144Hz refresh rate and a 1080p+ resolution. It features a 240Hz touch sampling rate and “Wet and Oily Touch Detection 2.0”. The smartphone ships with HiOS 16 (Android 16).
Prices
The Tecno Pova 8 will soon be available in Arc White, Graphite Black, Helios Orange, and Echo Green. Like its predecessor, the smartphone is IP64 certified (dustproof and splashproof).
The Tecno Pova 8 is now available for pre-order at Flipkart. The model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage costs 30,000 ₹ (271 euros/315 USD), while the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage costs 32,000 ₹ (289 euros/336 USD). Sales begin on June 18th.
