Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra with Nvidia’s RTX Spark will be released in autumn
Microsoft’s next Surface model will be the most powerful ever. The Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra was just unveiled at Computex 2026 and will directly compete with the MacBook Pro.
The Surface Laptop Ultra is equipped with the newly unveiled Nvidia RTX Spark system-on-a-chip. It features up to 20 ARM CPU cores, up to 128 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a Blackwell GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores, which Microsoft says is roughly equivalent to an Nvidia RTX 5070.
The power consumption should be up to 80 watts, which corresponds to an energy-saving 5070.
According to Microsoft, the new Surface Laptop Ultra offers 2.5 times the thermal headroom of the Surface Laptop 7 15.
Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra with replaceable SSDs
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra features a 15-inch MiniLED Ultra display with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits in HDR mode. The notebook reportedly weighs around 2 kg, making it about the same weight as a 16-inch MacBook Pro. The Surface Laptop Ultra is available in black or dark silver.
Microsoft is touting Windows Hello facial recognition and a replaceable SSD, which Apple is unlikely to be pleased to hear. Furthermore, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra has more ports than Apple’s flagship computer: three USB-C ports, a full-size HDMI port, an SD card reader, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and even a USB-A port.
The Surface Laptop Ultra will be released this fall along with its new chip. Microsoft hasn’t announced prices yet, but we expect them to be similar to the MacBook Pro 16, ranging from €3,000/US$3,000 to a maximum of €7,000/US$7,000 for the top model with 128 GB of RAM and 2-4 TB of storage.
