According to the latest information from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple now plans to launch its first smart glasses only at the end of 2027. According to Gurman, the Apple Smart Glasses will feature “oval cameras, unique colors, and various frame designs.” “Apple anticipates that the glasses could evolve into a health device over time and eventually integrate augmented reality technologies that improve vision,” he said. However, that could still be years away.
According to Gurman’s sources, Apple CEO Tim Cook considers the glasses his “top priority” before handing over the reins to John Ternus on September 1. He said the glasses would compete in the US with products priced between $200 and $500.
Apple Smart Glasses with integrated cameras
Similar to the Meta Ray-Ban glasses, the Apple Smart Glasses will also feature integrated cameras, allowing users to take photos and videos. They will also include speakers and microphones for music, phone calls, and Siri notifications, he said. The glasses could thus provide detailed directions for pedestrians.
Regarding build quality, he said Apple designs its own plastic frames, with the company reportedly testing at least four possible designs:
- A larger rectangular frame, similar to Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
- A slimmer, rectangular design, similar to the glasses worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook.
- Larger oval or round frames
- Smaller oval or round frames
Meta is using frames from the popular brand Ray-Ban instead. Apple is also considering various color options, including black, ocean blue, and tan, and the glasses could feature vertically oriented oval camera lenses, he said.
Unlike the latest generation of Meta Ray-Ban glasses, Gurman does not expect the first Apple Smart Glasses to feature an augmented reality display integrated into the lenses. He anticipates that Apple’s glasses will not receive this feature for at least a few years.
