Xiaomi 18 Ultra could get a variant with an Xring O3 chipset

About a year ago, Xiaomi introduced the Xiaomi 15S Pro and the Pad 7 Ultra, its first smartphone and tablet with an in-house chipset called Xring O1. A month later, another tablet with the O1 was released, the Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro. The 15S Pro was a variant of the Xiaomi 15 Pro, which originally came with a Snapdragon 8 Elite. According to Yogesh Brar, the company may be planning something similar this year with the Xiaomi 18 Ultra.


Rumors suggest there will be a version of the Xiaomi 18 Ultra featuring the Xring O3. This is the next generation of the Ultra, expected to be released in December. According to Brar, the company is not planning a global release of the Xring-based model, meaning it will only be available in China.


Recently, Ximitime revealed interesting information about the Xring O3 from the Xiaomi 18 Ultra, codenamed “Lhasa”: Xiaomi has revamped the CPU and increased the GPU clock speed. The Xring O1 featured an interesting four-tier CPU architecture with two Cortex-X925 cores, two Cortex-A725 cores, four lower-clocked A725 cores, and two Cortex-A520 cores. These clusters were designated “Prime,” “Titanium,” “Big,” and “Little.”

With the Xring O3, Xiaomi is foregoing its previous “large” model series. However, considering the planned clock speeds, it seems more accurate to say that the “small” model series will take over the role of the “large” ones. Here’s a detailed breakdown:

As you can see, the new “Prime” cores – the exact number of cores is not yet known – in the Xiaomi 18 Ultra will exceed the 4 GHz barrier. And the “Little” cores will be clocked significantly higher than the old “Big” and “Little” cores.
Xiaomi is also increasing the GPU speed by 0.3 GHz, which equates to a 25% increase. The GPU design is still unknown, but it is likely to be an ARM Mali G1 Ultra, the successor to the G925. ARM C1 cores will also probably be used in the CPU. However, the RAM speed remains unchanged.
A few weeks ago, a leak suggested that the Xring O3 would be released alongside the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5, whose release is expected in August. However, the use of the in-house chipset in further Xiaomi smartphones is a significant step.
