GoPro Mission 1 with 50MP 1-inch sensor, 4K Open Gate and GP3 chip is here
The new GoPro Mission 1 camera series was officially unveiled today. It brings several key upgrades, including a larger 1-inch sensor, a new GP3 processor, and support for Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lenses. The series includes the Mission 1, the Mission 1 Pro, and the Mission 1 Pro ILS.
All three models are equipped with a new 50-megapixel 1-inch sensor that is designed to capture more light than the sensors of previous generations.
The cameras are powered by a new 5nm GP3 processor, which enables video recording in 1080p at 960 frames per second, 8K at 60 and 30 frames per second, 4K at 120 frames per second (Open Gate) and 4K at 240 frames per second.
GoPro states that the new chipset also integrates an improved AI NPU for optimized video processing and enhanced low-light performance. The cameras are powered by a new Enduro 2 battery, which, according to the manufacturer, allows for over 5 hours of recording time at 1080p30 and more than 3 hours at 4K30 on a single charge.
GoPro Mission 1 series waterproof down to 20 meters
The new GoPro cameras feature an improved housing with water resistance up to 20 meters. The model range also includes a larger OLED display on the back, redesigned buttons, and a new lens with a 159-degree field of view.
Audio quality has been improved through a four-microphone system and support for 32-bit float recording. Other features include Bluetooth 5.3, HLG HDR, 10-bit color depth with GP-Log2, timecode synchronization, a bitrate of up to 240 Mbps, and support for 50-megapixel photos.
The GoPro Mission 1 Pro is also offered as a Grip Edition, which includes a metal housing for added durability, as well as hot shoe mounts, a magnetic locking mount, and mounting fingers. The GoPro Mission 1 Pro ILS, on the other hand, features an interchangeable lens system with support for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lenses and adapters.
In addition to the new cameras, GoPro also announced a new wireless microphone system that will be compatible with the Hero Black cameras as well as with smartphones and DSLRs.
GoPro also introduced a range of accessories for the Mission 1 series, including a new Media Mod, M-series ND filters, a protective case, the Volta 2 battery grip, the Light Mod 2, a dual charger for the Enduro 2 battery, and a vertical mounting adapter.
Pricing for the GoPro Mission 1 series is yet to be announced, but pre-orders will be available starting May 21. The Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro will be available worldwide starting May 28, while the Mission 1 Pro ILS, as well as the Creator and Ultimate Creator Editions of the Mission 1 Pro, are expected to be released in the third quarter of this year.
