vivo X300s announced with 200MP main camera and photo kit
Alongside the X300 Ultra camera flagship, the vivo X300s was also released today. It is intended to fill the gap between the smaller 6.3-inch model X300 and the larger 6.78-inch model X300 Pro.
The vivo X300s features a 6.78-inch OLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 1260 x 2800 pixels (20:9 aspect ratio), and 10-bit color depth. It uses an LTPO panel (BOE Q10 Plus), making it almost identical to the display of the Pro model – the only difference being the lack of Dolby Vision.
The camera setup is what truly differentiates the vivo X300s from the X300 Pro. In addition to a 200MP main camera with an f/1.68 Zeiss lens, it also features a 50MP telephoto lens (f/2.57 Zeiss APO lens) and a 50MP ultrawide lens (f/2.0 Zeiss lens). The selfie camera has a 50MP sensor (f/2.0).
Compared to the Pro model, which has a 50MP main camera and a 200MP telephoto lens, this is the exact opposite. More importantly, however, the vivo X300s uses smaller sensors. The main camera has a 200MP Samsung HPB sensor (1/1.4 inch), while the Pro model uses a 50MP Sony Lytia 828 sensor (1/1.28 inch). For comparison, the HPB sensor in the X300s’ main camera is also used in the X300 Pro’s telephoto lens, while the X300s’ telephoto lens has to make do with a significantly smaller 50MP Sony Lytia 602 sensor (1/1.95 inch).
The ultra-wide and selfie cameras of both smartphones are identical – they all use the 50 MP Samsung JN1 lens (1/2.76 inch) with an f/2.0 aperture and autofocus. The selfie cameras also offer a fairly wide field of view of 92°.
vivo X300s Photography Kit
Last year, the vivo X300 Pro got a photography kit with a teleconverter and the new X300 Ultra also comes with such accessories. Just like the X300s – the Zeiss G2 teleconverter allows for a focal length of 200 mm. The kit also includes a matching case and a mounting plate.
In addition to the cameras, the vivo X300s is equipped with the same Dimensity 9500 chipset Equipped like the X300 Pro, it features a large vapor chamber and a graphite foil for heat dissipation, resulting in improved continuous performance.
The MediaTek chipset is equipped with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X quad-channel RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage. The proven V3+ image processor is used for camera-related applications.
7,100 mAh Si/C battery with 90 watt charging
Inside the vivo smartphone is a massive 7,100 mAh fourth-generation silicon carbide battery (26.56 Wh), slightly larger than the 7,000 mAh battery in the Pro model. However, this was the Chinese version – some Pro variants were sold with a 6,600 mAh battery. The battery supports 90-watt wired charging and 40-watt wireless charging.
The smartphone features symmetrical 1511 dual speakers and a specially designed vibration motor for haptic feedback. It is a powerful motor with a vibration intensity of 1.1 grms and a start-stop time of only 40 ms.
Like last year’s vivo X200s, the new model is also dustproof and waterproof according to IP68 and IP69 standards. It also features an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. A significant improvement is the USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port – the X200s, in contrast, had a 6.67-inch display, a Dimensity 9400+ chipset, a 6,200 mAh battery, and a USB-C 2.0 port. Other connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX, NFC, and dual-band satellite positioning.
Prices
The vivo X300s is currently only available for pre-order in China – the official sales launch is on Friday, April 3rd. It is available in Titanium Black, Silver, Dream Core Purple, and Film Green.
Prices for the entry-level model with 12/256 GB start at 5,000 CNY (631 euros/720 USD) and rise to 7,000 CNY (883 euros/1,010 USD) for the top model with 16 GB/1 TB. The Photography Kit adds another 1,000 CNY. However, the X200s was never sold worldwide, nor was the X200 Ultra. The X300 Ultra, on the other hand, will soon be available worldwide, so the same could be true for the vivo X300s.
