vivo X300 Ultra: 1/1.12-inch main camera and 200MP periscope telephoto lens in video
The vivo X300 Ultra is about to launch, and new details are emerging almost daily. The Chinese company has teased initial specifications for both the 200MP periscope telephoto camera and the main camera. We also have an official video and photos from the first public press event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
A detailed look at the vivo X300 Ultra’s 200MP periscope telephoto camera
vivo product manager Han Boxiao revealed the details of the camera setup in a post on Weibo. The vivo X300 Ultra will be equipped with a fifth-generation 200MP periscope telephoto camera from Zeiss, which uses a customized Samsung HP0 sensor.
According to the manufacturer, the telephoto camera uses vivo’s BlueImage technology to improve color accuracy, autofocus performance, energy efficiency and HDR capabilities.
The telephoto camera will also feature improved image stabilization. vivo states that the system offers stabilization of up to 3 degrees – a significant improvement over the 1.2-degree stabilization of the vivo X200 Ultra. According to vivo, the telephoto camera of the upcoming X300 Ultra will achieve stabilization that meets the CIPA 7.0 standard.
The improved stabilization allows for longer and steadier exposures, enabling the camera to capture more light. This should also significantly improve zoom performance in low light. Furthermore, the telephoto camera supports enhanced autofocus tracking at up to 60 frames per second for action shots, making it easier to track fast-moving subjects.
1/1.12-inch main camera with Sony LYTIA-901 sensor
There were hardly any details about the design and hardware specifications of the vivo X300 Ultra at the MWC event. vivo has now also provided these details regarding the main camera on the back of the vivo smartphones, which is also supposed to have a resolution of 200 megapixels.
The main camera uses the Sony LYTIA-901 sensor with a large 1/1.12-inch footprint and a 35mm focal length. vivo states that the new sensor can capture 30% more light per pixel than its predecessor. According to vivo, the new sensor also supports improved stabilization and meets the CIPA 6.5 standard. This results in better low-light performance and video recording. The vivo X200 Ultra was already certified according to CIPA 5.0.
Furthermore, the lens system of the 200MP camera has been upgraded to one glass and six plastic elements with a new coating that, according to the manufacturer, reduces reflections by up to 30% compared to the previous model. Recent rumors suggest that the vivo X300 Ultra will also feature a 50MP ultrawide camera and a rear-facing 5 MP multispectral sensor.

The first moving images of the vivo X300 Ultra have also surfaced thanks to a short teaser video on YouTube. The video focuses primarily on the camera accessories.
Here’s a short teaser video showcasing the redesigned photography kit with up to 17x optical zoom for the vivo X300 Ultra and the camera cage. The latter offers grips, a tripod mount, and additional attachment points for accessories like lights and microphones.
vivo X300 Ultra unveiled at MWC
The vivo X300 Ultra was also showcased live at MWC in Barcelona. This wasn’t an official announcement, but rather a first glimpse into the future. Crucially, the new Ultra will also be released outside of China, making it the first vivo Ultra smartphone on the global market. Which countries will receive the device is still unclear, and no price has been announced yet.
The photos, like the video above, show the new teleconverter and camera rig of the vivo X300 Ultra. The somewhat awkwardly named vivo ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen2 Ultra offers an industry-leading maximum focal length of 400 mm (35mm equivalent). That’s twice the range of last year’s vivo X200 Ultra Photography Kit extender.
Thanks to the in-sensor zoom crop, the total zoom range of the X300 Ultra with the teleconverter reaches up to 800 mm. Vivo states that the new kit supports the full optical resolution of 200 MP and delivers “flawless image quality even with a digital crop of 1600 mm”.
But that’s not the only camera accessory: vivo has also announced a camera cage, transforming the camera smartphone into a portable video rig. It features various mounts for accessories such as a flash unit, multi-speed fan, and tripod. It also has physical triggers and quick-release mounts.
The vivo X300 Ultra is expected to launch in China later this month, thus also celebrating its global debut.
