Apple Studio Display 2 with 120Hz ProMotion, HDR and A19 chip
The Apple Studio Display 2 is expected to be released early next year, and a new report allegedly provides further details about the external monitor’s features.
According to internal Apple code, Macworld If available, the new external display will offer a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz (ProMotion) as well as HDR support. The current studio display is limited to 60 Hz and supports SDR, but not HDR.
Filipe Espósito Macworld speculates that the new HDR support indicates Apple’s use of improved panel technology with higher brightness. Analyst Ross Young actually believes that the Apple Studio Display 2 could use a Mini LED panel similar to that of the MacBook Pro, that offers superior brightness, higher contrast and more accurate color reproduction compared to the current LCD panel.

Elsewhere, the code refers to the identifier “J527” for the monitor, suggesting that the model is equipped with the A19 chip – two details previously discovered in code analyzed by MacRumors. Also Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman mentioned “J527” as an internal codename for one of the displays developed by Apple.
Apple launched the 27-inch Studio Display in March 2022 along with the Mac Studio It was unveiled. It offers 5K resolution, 600 nits of brightness, an integrated webcam and speakers, a Thunderbolt 3 port, and three USB-C ports. The price in the US starts at $1,599. The new version, which Apple is currently developing, could be released as early as spring, along with new Macs with M5 chips.
