XploraOne by HMD: Hybrid mobile phone for children unveiled
Just under two months ago, HMD launched the Touch 4G – a hybrid phone that combines smartphone functions with those of a feature phone. Now, HMD is following up with the XploraOne by HMD, which is aimed at children and was developed in collaboration with the Norwegian brand Xplora, an established player in the children’s smartwatch market.
The XploraOne by HMD follows a similar concept to the Touch 4G, but places a clear focus on being child-friendly. Although neither technical specifications nor the price have been announced yet, the design similarities to the HMD Touch 4G are unmistakable.
The XploraOne features a similar-looking, compact touchscreen, a selfie camera, and a home button on the front. The back is equipped with a single camera and an LED flash. A physical SIM card slot is located on the left, and the power button and volume controls are on the right. Another button and a 3.5 mm headphone jack are located on the top.
The first images confirm that the children’s phone can make and receive calls, as well as send text and voice messages. It also offers comprehensive parental controls and does not include third-party apps, a web browser, or social media apps. HMD and Xplora are expected to release further details about the device soon.
