The latest foldable smartphone is here – the Huawei Mate X7. It offers some notable improvements over its predecessor, including updated IP58 and IP59 water and dust resistance, Huawei’s latest Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, a new telephoto camera, and a slightly larger battery.

The Mate X6 was already a slim and lightweight device, but Huawei has managed to reduce its size even further with the X7. It now measures 9.5 mm when folded and 4.5 mm when unfolded. At 235 grams, the X7 is 4 grams lighter than its predecessor while retaining its robust aluminum frame.

IP58 and IP59 ratings mean the Huawei Mate X7 is dustproof and can withstand splashing water and high-pressure water jets at close range.

The Huawei Mate X7 features slightly larger displays: a 6.49-inch cover display with a 20.4:9 aspect ratio and an 8-inch main display with an 8:7.3 aspect ratio. Both are LTPO OLEDs with a variable refresh rate of 1–120 Hz and high-frequency PWM dimming of 1440 Hz.

The camera setup remains unchanged: The 50 MP main camera with an RYYB sensor, variable aperture (f/1.4–4.0) with 10 stops of adjustment, and optical image stabilization (OIS) is the same as last year. The telephoto sensor has been upgraded to 50 MP with a larger aperture of f/2.2 and 3.5x optical zoom. The third rear camera is a 40 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Additionally, there are two 8 MP selfie cameras – one on the external display and one on the internal display.

The Mate X7, like the Mate 80 Pro and Mate 80 Pro Max models also presented today, is equipped with Huawei’s high-end Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. Since Huawei hasn’t officially revealed anything about the processor, we can only rely on existing reports. These indicate it’s a nine-core ARMv8 architecture with one main core clocked at 2.75 GHz, four performance cores clocked at 2.27 GHz, and four efficiency cores clocked at 1.72 GHz. It also comes with 12 or 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage.

Power is supplied by a dual-cell Si-C battery with a total capacity of 5,600 mAh. It supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The device ships with HarmonyOS 6 in China and also offers satellite connectivity.
