Oppo today unveiled ColorOS 16 with a refreshed design, improved performance, and numerous new features, as well as redesigned system apps. It is expected to debut tomorrow on the Oppo Find X9 series and will gradually be available on older Oppo devices in the coming months.

ColorOS 16 Home screen

The new update brings seamless system animations that enable instant app launches and interactions with apps, menus, and widgets. Animations are triggered upon touch and seamlessly return upon exit, enabling a faster user interface.

Oppo’s Luminous Rendering Engine ensures smooth transitions across all aspects of the user interface by taking control of all visual components and ensuring sustained performance even under heavy workloads with multiple open apps and background processes.

Added to this is the new Trinity Engine, which optimizes system resources at the chip level, including intelligent resource allocation, prioritizing speed during multitasking, and improving energy efficiency.

In numbers, Oppo claims that app launches are now 28% faster, loading times have been reduced by 21%, and CPU usage has dropped by up to 14% during normal use.

Oppo says the design of ColorOS 16 is inspired by nature, particularly the play of light and shadow. The lock screen now supports moving photos and videos as wallpapers. Users also get access to a wider selection of fonts and a full-screen Always-On Display (AOD) option.

The home screen in ColorOS 16 features a new Flux home screen option that allows users to quickly resize folders and apps to various shapes, such as wide, tall, and large.

The same option also applies to folders. The UI automatically adjusts the surrounding apps, widgets, and folders. Oppo’s Live Alerts now support more apps for displaying information and system status around the selfie camera’s frame.

Oppo’s AI suite is also receiving updates, with AI Eraser, AI Blur, and AI Reflection Remover for photos, as well as a new AI Portrait Glow that aims to enhance images taken in low light by optimizing lighting and skin tones.

Oppo is also updating the O+ Connect suite with improvements to notification syncing, file transfer, and device management on Mac and Windows PCs.

Rollout Timeline

ColorOS 16 will be available in China starting October 30, 2025. Among the first devices to receive the new user interface are the Find X8 series, the Find N5 as well as Chinese versions of the OnePlus 13 and 13T. The rollout will continue in the coming months. Oppo’s Find X9 series will ship with ColorOS 16 as standard.
