Xiaomi 15T and 15T Pro unveiled with larger 6.83-inch displays and batteries
Xiaomi’s new flagship models will be unveiled tomorrow; the Xiaomi 15T and 15T Pro launched today. These offer high-end displays, powerful chipsets, and capable cameras, but make a few compromises for the sake of the wallet. This year, both models are larger with 6.83-inch displays (the 14T pair had 6.67 inches), but they are thinner and have larger batteries. The Pro also has a more powerful telephoto camera.
Xiaomi 15T Pro
The Xiaomi 15T Pro is powered by the Dimensity 9400+ chipset, the successor to the Xiaomi 14T Pro chipset released in 2024. MediaTek just announced its successor, the Dimensity 9500, but its performance is so high that most people will never push the chip to its limits. The 15T Pro is equipped with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage.
Xiaomi has integrated the 3D IceLoop cooling system to improve the chip’s continuous performance. Both phones come standard with the latest HyperOS 3.
The new display of the Xiaomi 15T Pro is a 6.83-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 1,280 x 2,772 pixels. It achieves a maximum brightness of 3,200 nits (compared to 4,000 nits for the 14T Pro) and features DC dimming for flicker-free brightness control. Both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are supported, as well as Dolby Atmos for the stereo speakers. The Pro’s display runs at 144 Hz.
The main camera is based on the same 50 MP Light Fusion sensor (1/1.31 inch) from OmniVision as last year. It features 1.2 µm pixels and sits behind an f/1.62 lens with OIS. The new 50 MP telephoto camera features a longer 5x/115 mm lens with an f/3.0 aperture and OIS. This is an improvement over the 2.6x/60 mm lens on last year’s model. The ultrawide camera features a 12 MP sensor and a 120° 15 mm lens. The selfie camera has a 32 MP sensor and a 90° 21 mm lens.
All three main cameras can record HDR10+ video (4K at 30 frames per second). The main camera also offers 8K at 30 frames per second and 4K at up to 120 frames per second. Optionally, you can record 4K video at 60 frames per second in 10-bit Log mode with LUT support for easy color grading.
As mentioned, both phones have 5,500 mAh batteries, compared to 5,000 mAh last year. The Pro model offers faster charging than the Xiaomi 15T (but not faster than the 14T Pro) with 90W wired and 50W wireless HyperCharge. Xiaomi claims that the battery lasts over 15 hours of continuous use.
This Pro is slimmer than last year’s, with its 7.96 mm thick 6M13 aluminum alloy frame. However, it weighs roughly the same at 210 g. The Xiaomi phone has an IP68 ruggedness rating and can be submerged in freshwater up to 3 meters (previously 2 meters). Both Xiaomi 15T models feature Gorilla Glass 7i protection on the front and fiberglass backs.
The Pro has advanced connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and NFC. It also enables an offline communication method that enables phone-to-phone voice chat over distances of up to 1.9 km. The Xiaomi 15T offers the same feature, but is limited to a range of 1.3 km.
Xiaomi 15T
The Xiaomi 15T switches to the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chip, but still features the 3D IceLoop cooling system and 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The storage is 256 GB or 512 GB UFS 4.1.
The display is almost identical: a 6.83-inch OLED panel with a maximum brightness of 3,200 nits and support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The refresh rate is limited to 120 Hz, but the difference between 120 Hz and 144 Hz isn’t significant (most games don’t support 144 Hz anyway). And yes, it has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos on board.
The Xiaomi 15T does away with its predecessor’s Sony sensor and replaces it with the Light Fusion 800. It’s a similarly sized 1/1.55-inch 50 MP sensor with 1.0 µm pixels. It features an f/1.7 lens with OIS.
Unlike the Pro, this model has a 2x/46 mm telephoto lens with a 50 MP sensor. This is comparable to the camera of the Xiaomi 14T. There’s also a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 32 MP selfie camera. While it can’t record 8K videos, the Xiaomi 15T supports HDR10+ at 4K 30fps and 10-bit Log at 4K 60fps. Both the 15T and 15T Pro feature Leica Summilux lenses and offer improved Portrait Master modes.
The Xiaomi 15T’s battery has the same capacity as the Pro (5,500 mAh), but only supports 67W wired charging. There’s no information on the frame material, but it’s presumably plastic again. This year’s T-Phone is thinner at 7.5 mm (previously 7.8 mm), but weighs the same at 194 g. The IP68 rating has also been improved and can now withstand depths of up to 3 m.
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6.0, and NFC. Offline phone-to-phone communication is also possible over a distance of up to 1.3 km.
Prices
The Xiaomi 15T and 15T Pro will be available soon. The 15T starts at €650/£600 for a 12/256 GB model, while the 15T Pro starts at €800/£650 for the same 12/256 GB configuration.
