Google Pixel 9a with Tensor G4 chipset is here
The Google Pixel 9a, the most affordable model in the Pixel 9 series, was officially unveiled today. It features the same design language as the other 9 models. The front consists of a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 panel with flat edges that blend into the flat aluminum frame. On the back, plastic completes the angular profile, in contrast to the rounded edges of the Pixel 8a. It also now has an IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.
The Google Pixel 9a features a slightly larger 6.3-inch pOLED display with a resolution of 2,424 x 1,080 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The new display achieves a brightness of 1,800 nits for HDR content (100% of the display area) and a peak brightness of up to 2,700 nits (5% of the display area). The display also supports HDR, albeit with limited 8-bit color depth. It also houses the optical fingerprint sensor.
In addition, a revised camera system is installed. The old 64 MP camera of the Pixel 7a and Pixel 8a has been replaced by a 48 MP f/1.7 camera with Quad PD Dual Pixel AF and OIS. It can record 4K videos at up to 60 frames per second. The ultra-wide-angle camera, however, is the same 13 MP f/2.2 camera as before. The 13 MP front-facing camera of the 8a has also been carried over and is still limited to 4K videos at 30 frames per second.
The Pixel 9a, however, gets some new photography features. It is the first A-series smartphone with a macro focus function for close-up shots. It is also the first A-series smartphone with Google’s astrophotography feature.
The Google Pixel 9a runs on the new Tensor G4 chipset and the Titan M2 security coprocessor. It comes standard with 8 GB of RAM and a choice of 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage. It also has a slightly larger 5,100 mAh Li-Ion battery, but cable charging remains at a slow 23 watts. Qi wireless charging is also available.

The Google Pixel 9a ships with Android 15 and all of Google’s new AI features. Like other Pixel phones, it will receive seven years of operating system and security updates from launch. It is available in four color options: Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony, although not every color will be available in every region. Prices start at €549/$499/INR49,999, starting in April.
