HMD Key with Android 14 Go for 70 euros is here
HMD has launched a new low-end smartphone – the HMD Key. It features a 6.52-inch 576 x 1,280 pixel 60 Hz LCD touchscreen with 460 nit peak brightness, the Unisoc 9832E chipset, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of expandable storage and a 4,000 mAh battery with 10 watt wired charging support.
So it’s as spartan as can be and runs on the rudimentary Android 14 Go accordingly. Probably because trying to run regular Android with 2 GB of RAM would not lead to a good end. There are two years of quarterly security updates and nothing else – at least from an official side.
The HMD Key has a single speaker, an 8MP main camera, a 5MP front camera, Bluetooth 4.2, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, and is IP52 dust and splash resistant. It comes in Midnight Black and Icy Blue. It measures 166.4 x 76.9 x 8.95mm and weighs 185.4g.
With these specs, you’d expect the HMD Key to be a budget smartphone. And it kind of is, as it’s launching in the UK for £59 (€71). It should also spread to other markets very soon, with Australia and New Zealand first on the docket.
