Tecno Pop 9 with Helio G50 chipset introduced
Tecno unveiled an LTE-only smartphone called the Pop 9 in August, which was later relaunched as the Spark Go 1. It then launched in Africa with a Unisoc T615 chip, and today it made its way to India with another new processor – MediaTek’s Helio G50. This is extremely affordable and helps keep the Tecno Pop 9’s price under $80.
The manufacturer is a bit tight-lipped about the specifications of the Tecno Pop 9, however. So we can only assume that it has the same 6.67-inch LCD display with HD+ resolution as the African variant. On the front, there is a “dynamic” punch hole for the 8MP selfie camera, a nod to Apple’s Dynamic Island. Tecno has implemented the feature by displaying some animations and notifications around the front camera.
The camera island design on the back is another nod to Apple and its iPhone 15. But that’s about all the similarities. In fact, the Tecno Pop 9 has only one camera on the back with a 13MP sensor and PDAF. Other “limitless” features that Tecno has implemented include a 5,000mAh battery, 3GB of RAM that can be doubled via the Memory Fusion feature in the settings, and an IR emitter that doubles as a universal remote.
The Tecno Pop 9 4G also comes with 64GB of storage and three color options – Glittery White, Lime Green, or Startrail Black. The phone will go on sale on November 26 via Amazon India at a price of INR 6,699 (just under $80).
