The Tecno Camon 30S is here. Like the Camon 30S Pro, it is a 4G phone with a MediaTek Dimensity G100 chipset.

Tecno introduced the Camon 30 and 30 Pro in February. One of the main differences between the two was that the Pro was a 5G phone with a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset, while the base model only had 4G connectivity with the Helio G99 Ultimate. Then came the Tecno Camon 30S Pro as a 4G alternative to the 30 Pro with the Helio G100 processor.

Now the Chinese group, which has been on the market since 2006, is opening the next chapter: the Tecno Camon 30S is here. Like the S Pro, it is a 4G phone with the G100 chip. Available configurations include 6/128GB, 8/128GB and 8/256GB with virtual RAM to double the RAM capacity.

The S Pro introduced two major changes compared to the regular Pro – a curved display and an IP rating. The Tecno Camon 30S follows suit and features a 6.78-inch curved OLED display with an FHD+ resolution and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The display can reach 1,300 nits in high brightness mode and uses 2,160Hz PWM dimming. It is a 10-bit panel with 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. There is Gorilla Glass for protection, but the version is unknown.

As mentioned, the Tecno Camon 30S is dust and water resistant. It has an IP53 rating and the touchscreen can be operated even with wet fingers.

The main camera remains at 50MP with a 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX896 sensor and OIS. There is also a 2 MP depth sensor and a dual LED flash. In fact, the in-display selfie camera also has a dual LED flash. However, the resolution is only 13 MP and not 50 MP like the 30S Pro.

Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and 5,000 mAh battery with 33 watt charging power

The Tecno Camon 30S is equipped with stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. However, it does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a downgrade from the original model. Another downgrade is the battery charging power of 33 watts, while the battery capacity remains the same at 5,000 mAh. This makes the 30S the slowest device in the series when it comes to charging – the Camon 30 manages 70 watts.

The phone has a magical color change. For example, the color blue changes from light purple to dark blue when exposed to sunlight. There’s also Nebula Violet, which appears more light purple in the dark, as well as Celestial Black and Dawn Gold.

Tecno Camon 30S prices

If you actually want to buy the Tecno Camon 30S, you’ll have to travel a long way for now – it’s now available in Pakistan. The online store only shows one configuration with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, priced at PKR 60,000 (€200/$215/£165). It’s available in three colors, but the color-changing blue is missing.

The 30S has also already appeared in Kenya und Mali, but doesn’t seem to be on sale yet. Third-party retailers that carry the 30S have also not appeared, at least not yet.
