Bose Ultra Open Earbuds introduced with an open ear design
Bose has announced the new Ultra Open Earbuds, a pair of Bluetooth wireless earbuds with an open ear design. The idea is to be able to listen to content and still fully perceive the surroundings. Because the ears remain free when worn because the buds are worn on the outer ear and hang on the ear cups. They have a U-shaped design with a part that sits inside the outer ear and a band that hangs outward. The two are connected by a soft rubber material. The bracket also has a button to access various functions and playback options.
The Ultra Open Earbuds feature Bose’s proprietary OpenAudio technology. This means that the sound is projected directly into the ear canal by a powerful transducer so that the sound can only be heard by the wearer. The earbuds also feature the Bose Immersive Audio feature. It uses the company’s proprietary digital signal processing and a built-in inertial measurement unit to create a spatial audio effect. The feature has two modes – Still when you’re sitting and Motion when you’re on the go.
The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds also have Snapdragon Sound on board, including the latest Qualcomm aptX Adaptive codec for lossless, low latency audio. The Bose headphones establish connections via Bluetooth 5.3, but there is no linking of multiple devices. At least you can switch back and forth between the current and last paired device with the press of a button.
Other features include Auto Volume, which automatically adjusts the volume based on ambient noise, Google Fast Pair support, an IPX4 rating for water and sweat resistance, and Bose SimpleSync for pairing with select Bose Smart Soundbars and speakers.
The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds have a claimed battery life of 7.5 hours of continuous playback. If you activate Immersive audio, the playback time drops to 4.5 hours. The charging case provides an additional 19.5 (or 12) hours of battery life. A 10 minutes charge gives you two hours of play time. The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are priced at €349.95 / $299 and are available today through Bose and select retailers.
