Amazon Alexa+ AI chatbot now free for eligible Fire TV devices

Back in February, Amazon opened its AI chatbot Alexa+ to all US users, with Prime subscribers receiving free and unlimited access. Today, the company is extending the service free of charge to all owners of a compatible Fire TV device.

To be clear from the outset: If you own one of the following devices, you can use Amazon’s AI for free even without a Prime subscription: all current generation Amazon Fire TV Sticks, the Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember Smart TVs and other Smart TVs “from trusted brands with built-in Alexa+” (including Hisense and Panasonic).
These devices update automatically – no effort, download, or subscription required. With a Prime membership, you also get Alexa+ on compatible Echo devices and additional features on your Fire TV devices, including Routines, access to select Ring Camera Moments, and advanced Home Modes to automate your smart home devices.
Amazon Alexa+ AI chatbot versus ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini
Alexa+ is Amazon’s answer to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, but it clearly focuses heavily on Amazon’s own ecosystem rather than competing as a universal AI chatbot. However, like any other AI chatbot, you can converse with it in natural language and ask it questions on all sorts of topics.
It understands the context of a conversation and can answer follow-up questions. It helps you find content for your Fire TV device, transfer your Prime Video playback from one device to another, and provides answers to your questions about the content you’re currently watching, right on the screen. And of course, it can also control smart home devices.
