iOS 27 Siri app and “Search or Ask” feature revealed in leaked screenshots

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg today published a series of recreated screenshots showcasing the brand-new Siri app in iOS 27 and its “Search or Ask” feature. The Siri app allows iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to interact with Apple’s voice assistant via text and voice input. The app enables dialogues with a message history that can be deleted after a certain period. Overall, the Siri app functions similarly to chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.

As previously suspected, the iOS 27 Siri app has a dark user interface by default. At the bottom, there’s a “Ask Siri” field for text input, a microphone icon to switch to voice mode, and a paperclip icon for attaching images and other files. There’s also a page displaying past conversations, either as a list or in speech bubbles.

iOS 27 will include the long-awaited personalized version of Siri, which recognizes screen content and better understands personal context. At WWDC 2024, for example, Apple demonstrated how a user asked Siri about his mother’s flight and restaurant reservation, based on information from the Mail and Messages apps.
iOS 27 Siri app is significantly smarter
Siri will also become significantly more useful in handling your personal data. For example, according to reports, you can ask the new Siri about your available appointment times before entering them into your calendar. You can also ask Siri to compose emails, notes, or text messages using information from your device or the internet.

The new Siri feature in iOS 27 is integrated into the dynamic user interface. According to reports, iOS 27 users can access the new “Search or Ask” interface by swiping down from the top of the screen. The ability to say “Siri” or press and hold the iPhone’s power button for voice commands remains available.
The “Search or Ask” user interface will include a revamped version of the existing “Siri Suggestions.” This will display frequently used apps, recent web searches, the weather forecast, and shortcuts for actions such as recording a voice memo. From there, users can search the web using Apple’s new AI-powered search system.
According to the report, the results of “Search or Ask” are displayed in a rich-text card that pops out from the dynamic island. For more detailed information, users can swipe further down to open a conversation in the Siri app.
Since the revamped Siri version is based on Apple Intelligence, it is expected to be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, as compatibility requirements necessitate. Apple and Google have an agreement whereby Gemini will co-develop the underlying AI models for Apple Intelligence features, including the personalized Siri version.
Siri has been able to access ChatGPT since iOS 18.2. Gurman previously reported that a new feature called “Extensions” in iOS 27 will allow the integration of additional chatbots, with Gemini and Claude likely to be among the options.
Furthermore, iOS 27 will include a Siri mode for the Camera app, and new Apple Intelligence tools like “Reframe” and “Extend” will be integrated into the Photos app. Apple will unveil iOS 27 and other software updates during its WWDC 2026 keynote, which begins on Monday, June 8, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. After the beta testing phase, the update is expected to be released in September and will make the new Siri functionality available to all users.
