xAI introduces Grok-3, promises more performance than GPT-4
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI has just unveiled Grok-3, its most powerful AI model yet. The new AI is said to have more than ten times the processing power of its predecessor, outperforming leading competitors such as OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Google’s Gemini.
The latest iteration of xAI’s top-of-the-line model brings new “reasoning” capabilities in the form of two distinct modes: “Think,” which represents the AI’s mindset when solving queries, and “Big Brain” for tackling more challenging tasks. In addition to the model update, xAI also unveiled Deep Search, which it calls a “next-generation search engine.” This new feature is designed to analyze information from the web and X (Twitter) to provide comprehensive answers to user questions.
Grok-3 is part of the X Premium Plus plan, which now costs $40 per month, up from $22, following the last price increase. This is the second such price increase in as many months. The company is also introducing a new subscription model called SuperGrok, which costs $30 per month and offers “the most advanced features and earliest access to new features.”
Grok-3 as “maximum truth-seeking AI”
Musk said the new model is designed to be “maximum truth-seeking AI,” even if that truth might conflict with political correctness. The model has previously been criticized for spreading election fraud and having fewer restrictions on text-to-image generation.
Grok-3’s reasoning capabilities are accessible via the Grok app. In addition, xAI plans to add synthetic speech features to the Grok chatbot in the future. The previous version, Grok-2, is set to become open source software in the coming free months.
